small & medium sized business (SMB) Coaching Tauranga:

A space to think clearly, reflect deeply, and move forward with intent.

Business coaching offers protected time and space to step back from the noise of day-to-day demands and examine what is truly working- and what is no longer serving you and your team.

It’s protected time to step back from the noise, figure out what’s working (and what isn’t), and move forward with intent.

I offer small and medium sized business owner coaching in Tauranga / Mount Maunganui and online across New Zealand.

Because the focus is on your effectiveness and sustainability as a business owner (decision-making, leadership, performance under pressure, boundary-setting, and team dynamics), many clients treat this as business-related professional development expense. You may wish to confirm with your accountant for your situation

Why this began

I began doing more of this work after repeatedly seeing small business owners who were “successful on paper” but quietly running on fumes, burntout.

A common pattern: sleep gets worse, patience gets thinner, relationships get strained, and decision-making becomes reactive. I offer an neutral place to think strategically rather than constantly respond to what’s urgent, with psychological frameworks about what humans need.

Who this is for

I work with people who are:

  • Owner-operators, founders, and directors (small to medium sized businesses)
  • Wearing too many hats and carrying constant cognitive load
  • Growing a team and realising leadership is a different game than “just doing the work”
  • Feeling isolated with responsibility that’s hard to explain to friends or family
  • Burnt out, stuck, reactive, or quietly dissatisfied
  • Trying to scale without losing health, values, or relationships
  • Navigating a transition: growth, restructure, conflict or a key staff change

Many clients seek this when things look fine from the outside- but internally, it feels unsustainable.

What we focus on

Executive coaching is similar to therapy in that it involves regular, confidential conversations. It is different in that we do not necessarily explore your personal inner world or past history unless it is directly relevant.

Instead, coaching typically focuses on a range of applied, present-focused topics, including:

  • Clarity: what matters most right now (and what to stop doing)
  • Decision-making under uncertainty and pressure
  • Boundaries: time, availability, and the “always on” nervous system
  • Leadership style: strengths, blind spots, trade-offs, and influence
  • Employee wellbeing framework: THRIVE developed through Miller + Co
  • People issues: difficult conversations, accountability, team tension, culture drift
  • The owner bottleneck: delegation, control, standards, and letting go properly
  • Sustainable performance: preventing burnout while staying effective
  • Values, motivation, meaning- and how these show up in business choices
  • Managing the emotional load of ownership (stress, frustration, resentment, fear)
  • Rebuilding rhythm: seasons, sprints, recovery, and realistic capacity

If it’s useful, we can also use a simple wellbeing/performance framework to keep things grounded and trackable (sleep, energy, stress load, recovery, and work design) — not as “extra work,” but as a way to protect your output over time.

How coaching works

Sessions provide a place to slow things down, think clearly, and examine patterns that are often invisible when you are constantly “on”.

As a registered psychologist, I bring a deep understanding of human behaviour, performance, and stress systems into coaching conversations. Sessions provide a place to slow things down, think clearly, and notice patterns that are often invisible when you are constantly “on”.

This is not therapy, but it is psychologically informed executive coaching- practical, reflective, and focused on forward movement.

Practical details:

  • One-to-one sessions
  • In-person (Tauranga) or online
  • Flexible scheduling to suit your commitments
  • Sessions are confidential and structured around your goals

Many clients also find it helpful that SMB coaching is often claimed as a business expense, commonly classified under ongoing professional development or training. You may wish to confirm this with your accountant.
